Lovely Franklin Park

Here are some examples of the outstanding changes (natural and manmade...that's the reconfigured 11th hole).

But the colors are beginning their inevitable show of Nature's fury!

Enjoy

Sorry about the non-posts. Enjoy this urban hellhole scape...more to follow, I promise!

Fall colors are best appreciated at the proper lighting per her will...Sol!

What a difference

...a day makes. Or maybe it was two.

Here's a selection of the same views of these Fens:

And here's the view further afield.

The best part of urban living through these sorts of events is the stillness. It was quiet! I stepped out and heard a familiar clanging sound but it was out of place in the courtyard to my building...long story short the sound turned out to be the flag pole across the Fens atop the Landmark Center (nearly 200m away, 50m up)...traffic and the insulating effects of snow made it delightfully quiet. A rare treat in the Urban Hellhole!

Enjoy and stay safe.

Chill before the storm

The Fens in Winter
And these grasses look fantastic:

The Helhole looks ready for a good ole fashioned "Nor'eastah!"

Brace for it...stay warm, drink on!

Year's end...NYC

Here's a little from that "other" Urban Hellhole, NY City. WSP (Washington Square Park) is quite nice and festive this time of year. Enjoy!

Thank you Mayor Menino

My humble tribute to one of the finest mayors of this dear city!
He loved our tiny bit of green on the Emerald Necklace...he will be missed!

Last of the 70's

Some mighty fine weather in the park today. Here's to autumn days of 65 degrees

Sunday, October 19, 2014

The chill is in the air

Quite windy and chilly today on the Emerald Necklace. Here's a nice little tree between the 9th and 10th. This is what autumn in New England is all about!

Saturday, October 18, 2014

Of course...more course!

It was very nice to have short sleeves on during the round today. Here's a quick panorama from the 4th tee.

Starts SW across the 5th & 6th...then west and NW, down the 3rd green...finishing across the 1st and down the 4th. Enjoy!

(I like how the light changes so drastically for this silly phone)

(This one shows the weather we got later on...and I'm a suckah for clouds!)

More fall golf, tomorrow!

October in full "swing"

Report from the lovely Franklin Park GC. Summer has slipped blissfully into the Autumn...the trees enjoyed some needed rain and here are a few quick pictures. (I'm including a week ago picture with the newest one)
Last week
This week
And more from this afternoon!
Looking up the 7th (handicap 1), and on the left is the 8th
Across the 11th tee...across the 6th & 5th fairways towards the zoo...hear the lions?
Up the 11th fairway with the 14th fairway on the left. Follow the treeline...aim at that big yellow maple!
From the edge of the 15th green. The trees are starting to show!

Autumn in New England

Here's a sampling of the beginning of the changing leaves we love here in New England.

These of course are from the Olmstead park system...layouts and golf course design by Donald Ross and maintained expertly by Russell Heller.

Enjoy with my comments and compliments!

From Saturday on the 15th green looking NW
Saturday as well, looking north from the 15th green. That treeline is ready to start changing!
Looking at the second green. Sunday and what a day...clear skies make the Emrald necklace really shine!
The heather is gone and the trees are certainly going. The background will be more interesting in a few weeks.
Looking from the seventh tee down the 18th tee box/fairway. Again the trees around Franklin Park are gonna 'splode!
Looking down the 10th fairway...watchou for that rock! And, back up the 9th fairway.

That's it for now but I'm hoping for more fall ball (golf)!

Rainy days...

Seems like the weather can well represent the mood of the day.

And here's a sound bite for ya:

Enjoy.

PS - taking pictures in the rain is tough when holding an umbrella.

PPS - "umbrella" is such a interesting word (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umbrella
) but I still prefer the old French (for the rain) parapluie!

It's Farmers Market Day

The Urban Hellhole has a variety of summer recurring events. One of which is the farmers market at Copley Place. The variety is great and over the years has expanded to include fish and meats!

Here's today's haul...

Not too bad for <$25 for the veggies/fruit!

Golfing in the city

Thanks to Frederick Law Olmstead...this is the kind of city view I get on the weekends...

If you notice center-left...yeah that's the Pru!

Plus I shot a 95...so all around a nice day in the Urban Hellhole

Back for now

Yes we are amused.  Haircut you say?!

Our city's North End is quite a treat. Please take a bit of time to visit.

Also, I may start posting more...maybe less. #whothehellknows
